Choose the right service
Where should I start?
If you need a learner’s permit, start with Permit Prep + Test. If you already have a permit and are 15 or 16, explore Teen Driver Training. Learners ages 17+ can choose private driving lessons or a confidence driving package. If you are ready to test and meet SCDMV requirements, choose Road Test Only. Each service page explains the options and takes you to the appropriate booking or purchase link.
What is the difference between Permit Prep and the 8-hour classroom?
Permit Prep is a two-hour class followed by one permit knowledge-test attempt. The 8-hour Driver Education Classroom is a separate course in the teen training path. Taking Permit Prep does not replace the 8-hour classroom or behind-the-wheel instruction.
Can adults and complete beginners take lessons?
Yes. We work with teens, first-time adult learners, and drivers returning after time away from driving. Lessons are tailored to your experience and the skills you need to develop. Explore Adult Driving Lessons for our ages 17+ options. Learner drivers must have a valid permit before driving lessons.
What is included in a training package?
Inclusions depend on the package you select. Classroom packages combine classroom instruction, driving lessons, and a road test. Other packages provide lessons with or without a road test. Confidence Builder is a lessons-only option. Review the listed lesson hours and test inclusion before purchasing. Your purchase confirmation explains how to schedule your included services.
What makes training at Advantage Driving different?
Our state-certified instructors use a standardized training approach while adapting lessons to each student’s experience. We document skills and track progress over time to identify what needs more practice. Students learn in modern, safety-equipped vehicles with instructor dual controls, supported by convenient online scheduling and pickup in select areas.
Booking and Package Scheduling
How do I schedule after purchasing a package?
Your purchase confirmation email includes your personalized scheduling link. Use that link to reserve the appointments included in your package, following the steps in the email. Purchasing a package does not automatically reserve lesson times or a classroom seat. Each appointment is confirmed separately by email.
What if I cannot find my scheduling link?
Search your inbox and spam folder for emails from Advantage Driving or Acuity Scheduling. Look for your original purchase confirmation. If you still cannot find it, text us at (803) 200-2789 with the student’s name and the email address used for the purchase. Please contact us before purchasing the same service again.
What does Step 3: Accelerated Confidence mean?
Step 3 is your final appointment combining a two-hour driving lesson with a road test. In the scheduler, look for “2-Hour Driving Lesson + Road Test.” If this appointment is included in your package, use your personalized scheduling link to apply your package credit. Schedule it after your earlier lessons, and allow additional time for testing beyond the two-hour lesson.
Can I schedule all my appointments at once?
Yes. Use your personalized scheduling link to reserve each included appointment separately, following the order in your purchase email. Students ages 15–16 must complete the eight-hour classroom before beginning driving lessons. You may reserve lesson dates in advance, provided they fall after your classroom date. Check that you receive a confirmation email for every appointment you reserve.
How long will it take to complete my training?
Your timeline depends on appointment availability, your schedule, and how much practice you need between lessons. Check available dates and book early, especially if you need evenings or weekends. Completing a training package does not guarantee readiness to pass the road test. Allow time for additional practice if needed.
Permit Prep and Classroom Dates
What does the $60 Permit Prep class include?
The price includes a two-hour preparation class and one permit knowledge-test attempt. We review key topics to help students prepare, but studying the South Carolina Driver’s Manual beforehand is strongly recommended. This class is separate from the eight-hour Driver Education Classroom and does not replace behind-the-wheel training.
How old must I be to attend Permit Prep + Test?
Students must be at least 15 years old to take the permit knowledge test. Before booking, review the service page and appointment instructions for what to bring. Passing the test is one step toward obtaining your permit. You must also meet SCDMV requirements before your permit can be issued.
Do I need the eight-hour classroom before driving lessons?
Students ages 15–16 must complete the eight-hour Driver Education Classroom before beginning behind-the-wheel lessons. You may reserve your lesson dates ahead of time, as long as they fall after your classroom date. The two-hour Permit Prep class does not fulfill this classroom requirement.
Where can I find upcoming classroom dates?
Upcoming dates are listed on the Permit Prep + Test page for the two-hour class and the Teen Driver Training page for the eight-hour classroom. Choose your class, review the dates, and follow the booking instructions to reserve your seat.
Already purchased a package? Use the personalized scheduling link in your purchase confirmation email to book your included classroom. Purchasing a package does not automatically reserve a classroom seat.
Will I receive my learner’s permit at Advantage Driving?
No. After you pass the permit knowledge test, we provide your successful-test paperwork to take to SCDMV. SCDMV issues your physical learner’s permit after reviewing your required documents and completing any remaining requirements, including a vision screening if needed. You must obtain your valid physical permit before beginning driving lessons.
Do I need to bring lunch to the eight-hour classroom?
We provide pizza, snacks, and refreshments during the eight-hour Driver Education Classroom. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch, especially if you have dietary restrictions or food allergies. Food and refreshments are provided for the eight-hour classroom only, not the two-hour Permit Prep + Test.
Driving Lessons and Pickup
What do I need to bring to my driving lesson?
Bring your valid, unexpired physical learner’s permit to every driving lesson. Review your confirmation email for any additional instructions, and have any required intake forms completed before your appointment. If your permit is missing or expired, contact us before your lesson.
How long is each driving lesson?
Standard driving lessons last two hours. The combined Two-Hour Driving Lesson + Road Test appointment includes additional time for testing beyond the lesson. Check your confirmation email for your appointment’s scheduled start and end times.
Do you offer pickup and drop-off?
Yes. We offer lesson pickup and drop-off in designated areas, including ZIP codes 29210, 29212, 29063, 29036, and the River Bluff area of 29072. Coverage depends on your actual address. If you are outside these areas, contact us before booking to discuss available arrangements and any additional fee. Road-test appointments meet at our Irmo office.
Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?
We aim to provide continuity when scheduling allows. If you prefer the same instructor, consider that instructor’s availability when reserving your lessons. Instructor assignments may change when necessary. Your appointment communications provide your assigned instructor’s contact information approximately 48 hours before your lesson.
Can you help nervous drivers or students with additional learning needs?
Yes. Our instructors adapt lessons to each student’s experience, confidence, and pace. If you are anxious about driving or have specific learning or communication needs, contact us before booking so we can discuss instructor fit and helpful arrangements. Letting us know in advance helps us plan a more comfortable learning experience.
Do you work with students with autism?
Yes. We have successfully worked with students with autism and recognize that each learner has different strengths, needs, and goals. Our instructors can adapt their communication, pacing, and instruction to support the individual student.
Before booking, contact us to discuss the student’s driving experience, communication preferences, sensory considerations, and any helpful accommodations. This helps us consider instructor fit and plan an approach while maintaining the same driving safety standards for every student.
Road Tests and Readiness
Can I take my road test at Advantage Driving?
Yes. Advantage Driving is an SCDMV-certified third-party tester for the regular Class D road test. You can book Road Test Only if you meet the requirements and are ready to test, or choose a package that includes preparation and testing. Our road tests follow SCDMV standards.
How long must I have my permit before taking the road test?
Drivers ages 15–16 must hold their beginner’s permit for at least 180 days. Drivers ages 17 and older must hold it for at least 30 days. Students ages 15–16 must also meet the required classroom, behind-the-wheel, supervised-practice, and school-attendance requirements. You cannot test with an out-of-state permit or international permit/license.
How do I know whether I am ready for the road test?
You should be able to drive safely and independently without someone steering, braking, or repeatedly prompting you. This includes managing intersections, changing lanes, backing, parking, and following traffic rules. Use your instructor’s feedback and your practice experience to assess your readiness. Completing your included lessons does not guarantee that you are ready to pass. If you still need frequent assistance, additional practice is recommended before testing.
Where do road tests take place, and whose car will I use?
Road-test appointments meet at our Irmo office at 7705 St. Andrews Road, Suite D, Irmo, SC 29063. You will use an Advantage Driving vehicle for the test. Bring your valid, unexpired physical South Carolina learner’s permit and any documents requested in your confirmation email. Students ages 15–16 should also review the PDLA requirements before their appointment.
What happens after my road test?
We explain your result and provide your test paperwork. If you pass, you’ll receive a Class D License receipt to take to your local SCDMV branch, where your driver’s license will be issued once all requirements are met.
If you do not pass, use your tester’s feedback to guide further practice before scheduling another attempt. SCDMV waiting periods and applicable retest fees apply.
Appointment Changes and Support
How do I change or cancel an appointment?
Use the change or cancellation link in your appointment confirmation email. You can make self-service changes until 48 hours before your appointment. Within 48 hours, contact your assigned instructor directly. If you cannot reach them, contact our office. Fees may apply under the appointment policy accepted when booking.
What should I do if I am sick or running late?
Contact your assigned instructor as soon as possible using the contact information in your appointment communications. If you cannot reach them, contact our office. Please do not assume that a message automatically cancels or reschedules your appointment. Late arrivals, missed appointments, and short-notice changes may incur a fee under your booking terms.
Can I purchase additional lessons after completing my package?
Yes. You can book additional two-hour driving lessons for more practice, confidence building, or preparation before a road test. You do not need to purchase another full package. If you are unsure what to book, contact us with the student’s name and the services already completed.
Where is Advantage Driving located?
Our classroom and office are at 7705 St. Andrews Road, Suite D, Irmo, SC 29063. Classroom and road-test appointments meet at the office. For driving lessons, follow the pickup or meeting instructions in your appointment confirmation.
